Visit the Olympic Park in Park City Utah

A visit to the Olympic Park in Park City Utah is a must see during your visit to Park City.  When Utah hosted the Winter Olympics in 2002 this was the venue for ski jumping, nordic combined, bobsled, skeleton and luge.  It is in current use by the US Olympic teams as a training facility.  Camps and training for young Olympians in training also take place at the park.  Take a tour and you’ll be able to see the facility from top to bottom and maybe catch one of the teams practicing.

On the tour you can climb up to the top of the ski jumps and see just how far down it really is.  Sit on the bar and get a ski jumpers perspective of the world! You can also tour the bobsled track summer and winter.  Seeing how the track is put together, ramped and temperature controlled is really remarkable.

The park is used for training all year round.   In the summer the freestyle skiers practice their aerial maneuvers, twisting and flying and landing in the parks’ 750,000-gallon training pool.  The jumpers work on their technique by landing on plastic runways.

There are also training and camps offered in skeleton, luge, freestyle & ski jumping.  These aren’t limited to Olympic-minded athletes.  There is quite a variety of programs for people who just want to experience and learn more about the sports.

The Olympic Park in Park City Utah is also home to 2 museums.  The first is the Olympic Museum about the 2002 games.  A sampling of medals is on display as well as some of the costumes worn in the opening ceremonies and some of the athletes equipment that they used in the games.   The other museum is the Alf Engen Ski Museum which is a fascinating collection of history of skiing, both competitive and recreational, and the development of the skiing industry here in Utah.
