Park City in the Summer

Park City is known for its skiing, but Park City in the summer is worth a visit as well.  No matter if you’re looking for a weekend getaway or planning a week-long visit there will be lots to do or the chance to do nothing at all! If you enjoy hiking, biking, music, arts fairs, festivals, theater, street fairs, or being totally pampered at a day spa you’ll find something that you like.

One of the biggest events of the summer is the Park City Kimball Arts Festival held the first weekend in August.  It is a juried show that brings in artists from all over the country.  Park City’s historic Main Street is closed off and becomes a showplace of booths offering painting, sculpture, leatherwork, etc from all over.  We like to start at the bottom of the hill, see all the exhibits on one side and then hit the food booths at the top of the hill, often catching a live performance at the same time.

There is music galore in Park City during the summer. The Canyons hosts a free summer concert series on Saturday evenings in July.  They also have a big name concert series which in the past have featured the likes of James Taylor and Billy Joel.  If you’re a classical music fan you’ll love the summer concerts by the Utah Symphony at Deer Valley.   Held outdoors they are a perfect dinner picnic event.

For the more more physically inclined Park City offers 400+ miles of hiking/biking trails.  You can find everything from an easy stroll to a massive hill climb and everything in between.  A great way to enjoy our mountain views.  Take a picnic and some sunscreen and head out for the day.

For the more adventurous there is the Park City Mine Tour.  Park City started out as a mining town, known for its silver not powder.  Take a tour in old mine cars that takes you 1500 feet down through the mine shafts and experience the history of the old mining claims.

For a more relaxed afternoon there are many day spas offering a full day of pampering and luxury while the rest of your troop heads out and climbs mountains.  Then you might take a stroll down historic Main Street for some shopping or lunch in one of Park City’s many great restaurants.
However you decide to spend your time, summer in Park City can be whatever you want it to be and always enjoyable.
